Requirements
- Be an excellent engineer with required proficiency as a Software Engineer, especially in PHP
- Pass the same project given to senior engineers
- Have managed teams before
- Be an outstanding communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Understand the nuance between micromanagement and operating in the details
- Be determined to operate in a way that minimizes unnecessary bureaucracy and process
- Be authorized to work from your home location
Responsibilities
- Develop a team of high-performing engineers
- Measure performance in terms of quality, accessibility, reliability, performance, and security, as well as attitude, creativity, communication, and collaboration
- Hold each team member accountable to a high bar across all competencies
- Spend a portion of your time codingโpairing with engineers, reviewing PRs, taking on guild-level priorities, building prototypes, or helping with projects if a team is shorthanded
- Model what great looks like
- Lead a team of 5-8 PHP engineers
- Coach engineers in their craft, the complexities of working in a diverse codebase, and being a great teammate
- Develop best practices and cohesion at the guild level by spearheading strategic initiatives and resolving technical debt that impacts pace of delivery
- Enable engineers to move to different areas of the codebase every four months and get up to speed quickly
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Technical Program Managers (TPMs) to support the success of each team member
- Invest in the people with your time and expertise
- Provide mentorship and critical feedback to help team members do their best work
- Minimize unnecessary bureaucracy and process
- Remove obstacles and empower the team to run fast
- Approach difficult conversations with curiosity and compassion
- Build trust and confidence with teammates
