Requirements

• Be an excellent engineer with required proficiency as a Software Engineer, especially in PHP
• Pass the same project given to senior engineers
• Have managed teams before
• Be an outstanding communicator, both verbally and in writing
• Understand the nuance between micromanagement and operating in the details
• Be determined to operate in a way that minimizes unnecessary bureaucracy and process
• Be authorized to work from your home location

Responsibilities

• Develop a team of high-performing engineers
• Measure performance in terms of quality, accessibility, reliability, performance, and security, as well as attitude, creativity, communication, and collaboration
• Hold each team member accountable to a high bar across all competencies
• Spend a portion of your time coding—pairing with engineers, reviewing PRs, taking on guild-level priorities, building prototypes, or helping with projects if a team is shorthanded
• Model what great looks like
• Lead a team of 5-8 PHP engineers
• Coach engineers in their craft, the complexities of working in a diverse codebase, and being a great teammate
• Develop best practices and cohesion at the guild level by spearheading strategic initiatives and resolving technical debt that impacts pace of delivery
• Enable engineers to move to different areas of the codebase every four months and get up to speed quickly
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Technical Program Managers (TPMs) to support the success of each team member
• Invest in the people with your time and expertise
• Provide mentorship and critical feedback to help team members do their best work
• Minimize unnecessary bureaucracy and process
• Remove obstacles and empower the team to run fast
• Approach difficult conversations with curiosity and compassion
• Build trust and confidence with teammates
