Summary

Join MATRIX, a national company providing camp services, as an experienced Executive Chef to lead our culinary team in a remote Nunavut camp. This rotational 21/21 schedule position requires proven experience in a FIFO camp setting, Red Seal certification (preferred), and food safety certification. You will manage the culinary team, design menus, oversee inventory, maintain sanitation standards, train staff, and ensure efficient operations. The role demands strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to thrive in a remote environment. MATRIX offers a competitive salary, travel allowance, and a 3-weeks-on, 3-weeks-off rotation.

Requirements

  • Proven past experience as an Executive Chef or similar role, in a FIFO camp setting is required
  • Extensive knowledge of food preparation techniques, culinary trends, and best practices
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a remote and demanding environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Certification in food safety and sanitation is required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing
  • Flexibility to work on a rotational schedule, 12 hour days

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the culinary team in a remote camp setting, ensuring food service operations run smoothly and efficiently
  • Design menus, create recipes, and ensure food quality and presentation meet or exceed client expectations
  • Oversee food inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and storage
  • Maintain strict adherence to all food handling, safety and sanitation standards
  • Train and develop kitchen staff, ensuring proper knowledge and skills are obtained
  • Implement and monitor efficient and cost-effective cooking processes
  • Manage and maintain all kitchen equipment, ensuring proper functionality and cleanliness
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and clients to fulfill specific catering requests and dietary needs
  • Execute and oversee special events and functions
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Red Seal certification is a definite asset
