Join Ably's growing Finance team as a Finance Assistant and take ownership of the bookkeeping function. You will work closely with senior finance professionals, maintaining accurate financial reports, optimizing processes, and contributing to data-driven decision-making. Daily tasks include overseeing bookkeeping, handling invoicing and payments, assisting with payroll and expenses, reconciling financial accounts, contributing to the month-close process, strengthening financial controls, supporting financial analysis and reporting, and optimizing finance systems. This role requires proven experience as a Finance Assistant or Bookkeeper, ideally in a fast-growing environment, along with hands-on experience with accounting software and strong attention to detail. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential. Requirements
- Proven experience as a Finance Assistant, Bookkeeper or similar role, ideally in a fast-growing startup or scaleup environment
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all tasks
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to work independently and autonomously
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the immediate and wider team
- A proactive attitude, with the ability to identify problems and provide solutions
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive financial data responsibly
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage bookkeeping. You’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, fixed asset register and preparation of VAT/OSS returns
- Handle invoicing and payments. You’ll maintain revenue records, process customer and supplier invoices and ensure timely payments. You’ll also support and assist customers with invoicing and billing queries
- Assist with payroll and expenses. You’ll support payroll administration, ensuring staff wages are processed accurately and on time, and review employee expenses in line with company policies
- Reconcile financial accounts. You’ll regularly reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts to ensure accurate reporting
- Contribute to month-close process. You’ll support month-close reporting activities and gain exposure to annual accounts preparation
- Strengthen financial controls. You’ll help maintain and improve financial controls, ensuring compliance with internal processes and accounting standards
- Support financial analysis and reporting. You’ll provide ad-hoc support to the wider Finance team with financial analysis, reporting business insights to contribute to data-driven decision-making
- Optimize finance systems. You’ll help to maintain and enhance the company’s finance tools and software, improving workflows and team efficiency
