Summary

The EdOps Finance Team Manager is a remote, part-time position designed for experienced accounting or finance professionals interested in using their skills to manage a team of finance professionals and directly serve clients in a leadership role within a mission-driven context. The role involves managing a team of 6-8 finance analysts and finance specialists, serving as an outsourced controller for 1-2 schools, contributing to the improvement of the finance service line, and playing an active role in the recruitment process.

Requirements

  • Experience managing teams of finance or accounting professionals
  • Strong organization and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Experience with accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks Online) and capacity to learn new systems
  • Ability to write and clearly document processes and procedures
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Ability to interface professionally with clients

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 6-8 finance analysts and finance specialists including: Accountable for the team’s client facing work including, but not limited to, the annual fiscal audit, monthly financials, and compliance reporting
  • Provide necessary technical accounting support to ensure the team's work meets EdOps quality standards. This includes adapting processes and cadence as necessary for individuals on their team
  • Guide and support staff’s career paths (e.g., develop and conduct performance reviews, address staff underperformance, decide on staff promotion timing)
  • Consult with internal experts as necessary for complex situations, rule clarification, or other expert level advice
  • Create and maintain a team work culture that is inclusive and fair
  • Serve as an outsourced controller for 1-2 of schools by overseeing all day-to-day full-cycle accounting and compliance aspects of the schools
  • Close the books monthly/quarterly/annually and support the preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Oversee federal, state, and local grants administration
  • Serve as a school’s primary contact during annual financial audits and 990 preparation
  • Support the annual budgeting process in partnership with School Finance Managers
  • Liaise with a school’s state education authority (SEA), and the charter authorizer as needed
  • Contribute to EdOps’ continual improvement of the finance service line efficiency and accuracy by making recommendations and collaborating with the Director of Coaching and Development for improvement of EdOps wide processes and standardizations
  • Make recommendations, inform and collaborate with the Director of People Operations to optimize our people operations wide practices and approaches
  • Play an active role in the ongoing recruitment process of new staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with schools or non-profit organizations is a plus
  • Audit experience a plus
