Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in civil engineering, environmental science, urban planning, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in floodplain management, building code compliance, or related fields
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification is preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on best practices for flood risk mitigation in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations
- Consult with community to ensure floodplain management activities support the goals and objectives for disaster recovery
- Help communities identify solutions to post-disaster compliance issues as it relates to floodplain management, respective loss, and substantial damage
- Analyze and interpret data related to Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) data, and other metrics to identify specific issues in affected communities
- Stay updated on changes to floodplain management standards and building codes and assist the community in developing and implementing flood risk management maps, plans, policies, and strategies
- Collaborate with floodplain management staff at the local, state, and federal level on behalf of the community to ensure projects meet compliance standards related to flood hazards
- Review and evaluate construction plans for compliance with applicable floodplain requirements and, as necessary, conduct site inspections to assess floodplain risk and ensure that all structures are designed to withstand potential flooding
- Prepare reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies
