Head of Data

Summary

Shakepay is a Canadian financial institution reimagining financial services with a mission to make it bitcoin-friendly, secure, and rewarding. The Head of Data will manage and implement data program and strategy, lead a data science function, mentor the data team, and implement automated decision making frameworks. They must have 5+ years of experience leading a data team, 7+ years of experience working on consumer facing products, excellent communication skills, technical proficiency in Python or R and SQL, and experience with experimentation and deep-dive statistical analysis.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience leading a data team
• 7+ years of experience working on consumer facing products
• Experience leading and building high-performing teams
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Technical proficiency in one of Python or R in a data science context and SQL
• Experience in experiment & A/B/n test design and analysis
• Experience conducting deep-dive statistical analysis (modeling, causality, regression, etc.)
• A demonstrated ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects with cross-functional teams and a high attention to detail
• Experience communicating both in low-level technical details as well as high-level strategies
• Knowledge of effective data visualization principles, tools and techniques

Responsibilities

• Lead the execution of a comprehensive data analytics strategy aligned with business objectives
• Build a data science function to support decision-making and influence the company strategy and product roadmaps
• Manage and mentor our data team, and cultivate a culture of high performance
• Implement Shakepay’s framework for automated decision making, risk detection and fraud prevention
• Partner with cross-functional teams to prioritize deep-dives on key business questions
• Evangelize a data-driven culture across the organization

Preferred Qualifications

• Some familiarity with dbt (our data transformation tool)
• Experience with experimentation platforms like Statsig, Optimizely, Kameleoon, or others
• Startup experience is a big plus, bonus points for B2C fintech experience
• Experience in credit risk modeling, strategy, monitoring and forecasting
• Experience working with cloud data warehouses (we use Snowflake)
