Manager of Data Engineering

Summary

Join Abacus Group as their Manager of Data Engineering to lead the strategy, design, and execution of their data platform. You will own the end-to-end data product lifecycle, from defining data structures and designing the data warehouse to managing data ingestion pipelines and creating reporting tools. Collaborate with various teams to gather requirements, prioritize initiatives, and ensure successful product delivery. This role requires managing an offshore data engineering team, overseeing data integration, and championing data governance best practices. You will act as a liaison between business units and the data development team, translating business needs into technical requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data platform development and management, along with strong communication and project management skills.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL pipelines, and modern data warehousing concepts (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.)
• Proven ability to gather and translate business requirements into technical deliverables
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements
• Experience with data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker)
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and product management tools such as Azure DevOps or similar
• A proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong project management and prioritization skills
• 5+ years of product ownership experience with a focus on data platforms, data warehousing, or analytics products
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field; MBA or relevant certification is a plus
• Experience working closely with development teams, including offshore/outsourced partners
• Experience managing an offshore team
• Exposure to regulatory and compliance considerations in data management

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the overall architecture and roadmap for data structures, data warehouse design, and data reporting systems
• Act as the primary liaison between business units and the data development team to capture, clarify, and prioritize data needs
• Define and document detailed product requirements, data specifications, and user stories for ingestion pipelines and reporting tools
• Collaborate with engineering and outsourced development teams to ensure successful implementation of data solutions on time and within scope
• Manage the workoad and work output of an offshore data engineering team
• Lead the data product lifecycle from ideation to delivery, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and roadmap management
• Oversee the integration of diverse data sets into the data warehouse to support analytics, business intelligence, and reporting needs
• Champion data governance, quality, and security best practices across the organization
• Monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure alignment between cross-functional contributors and business objectives

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in the financial services or technology sector preferred
• Experience working in a B2B SaaS environment preferred
