Network and Systems Administrator

Summary

Join Rescale, a leading enterprise big compute company, as a Network & Systems Administrator. In this role, you will maintain cloud and on-premise networks and VPNs, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with customers and engineers. You will need 1+ years of experience in network or system administration and familiarity with Linux systems, VPN technologies, and security best practices. Responsibilities include network and VPN setup and maintenance, customer interaction, documentation and reporting, Linux systems administration, and security and vulnerability management. The position involves a 24/7 on-call rotation. Rescale offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in network administration, system administration, or related fields
• Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) and on-premise network setups
• Familiarity with VPN technologies and configurations (IPSec, OpenVPN, AWS Site to Site VPN, Cisco IOS, etc.)
• Basic Linux system administration experience (RHEL, CentOS, etc)
• Understanding of security best practices and patch management processes
• Comfortable interacting with customers, both technical and non-technical
• Ability to work collaboratively with customer teams and internal staff
• Ability to troubleshoot network and system issues and propose effective solutions

Responsibilities

• Assist in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting cloud and on-premise network infrastructures, including Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
• Monitor and ensure the stability and performance of network connections and services
• Be a part of a 24/7 on call rotation for supporting customer VPNs
• Will be dependent on team size, but ideally 2 or 3 days on, and then a break corresponding to the size of the members sharing the on call rotation
• Communicate directly with customers to understand their network and system needs, troubleshooting any issues they face with networks or systems
• Collaborate with customer network and security teams to ensure smooth operation and resolve any technical challenges
• Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, VPN setups, system patches, and security protocols
• Provide regular updates and status reports to both internal teams and customers
• Perform routine administrative tasks on Linux systems, including updates, backups, and general system maintenance
• Assist in setting up and managing servers and services in a Linux environment, via tools like Terraform and Ansible
• Assist in applying patches and updates to systems to ensure they are secure and protected from vulnerabilities
• Stay informed about the latest security threats and ensure systems are hardened against potential risks
