Summary

Join CALSTART, a mission-driven organization focused on transportation decarbonization, as a Policy Development Intern. You will support the Policy Program Manager and contribute to projects impacting policy engagement. This hands-on role offers exposure to the current political climate and involves researching clean transportation topics, preparing meeting materials, creating reports, developing case studies, and editing a policy newsletter. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Requirements

  • Completed at least three years of accredited college/university level coursework
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Communications Urban Studies, Transportation Planning, Sustainability, Business Development or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and task management abilities
  • Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders and audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced remote work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in internal and external teams with a proactive, solution-oriented approach
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently in a remote work environment

Responsibilities

  • Research on a range of clean transportation topics (Zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) policies at the state and federal levels, vehicle battery technology and trends, etc.)
  • Prepare materials for internal and external meetings, including presentations, briefing notes, and summaries
  • Create written reports on legislative and regulatory briefspolicy related briefs and proposals
  • Develop best practice case studies and fact sheets
  • Edits (or synthesize) and produce an internal policy newsletter to keep staff informed on relevant developments
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the non-profit space and working on policy and/or clean transportation policy is preferred
