Summary

Join Discord's Public Policy/Government Relations team as a Policy Advisor and support our mission to build trust with policymakers and stakeholders. You will introduce Discord to government officials, advocate for our position on key legislative initiatives, engage in policy coalitions, monitor policy developments, and create policy materials. This role requires 5+ years of experience in government, public policy advocacy, or government relations, deep insight into US policymaking, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly. The position offers a competitive salary range of $137,000 to $151,000 + equity + benefits and is #LI-Remote.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in government, public policy advocacy, and/or government relations
  • Deep insight on the policymaking process in the U.S
  • Ability to execute a multi-year strategic advocacy program
  • Commitment to Discordโ€™s mission to be the place online where everyone can find belonging
  • Work experience on technology policy initiatives such as online safety, privacy, cybersecurity, or content moderation
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical audiences
  • Success building trust and consensus across stakeholders with different perspectives and priorities
  • Willingness to travel as necessary within the U.S

Responsibilities

  • Introduce Discord to government policymakers and other stakeholders including educating decision-makers on our founding vision, our products, and our investments in privacy and safety
  • Advocate for Discordโ€™s position on key legislative and regulatory initiatives that will impact our users and our business, balancing direct advocacy with effective leverage from coalitions and associations
  • Engage in public policy coalitions with peer companies and civil society organizations
  • Monitor and analyze policy developments in the U.S. and Canada
  • Develop public policy materials such as position papers, talking points, presentations, consultation responses, for engagement with our partners
  • Engage with cross-functional partners (Legal, Trust and Safety, Communications, Policy), reporting on policy developments and gathering their input
