Summary

Join A Better Balance as their Vice President of Development and lead their fundraising strategy, building upon 18 years of growth and impact. You will design and execute fundraising strategies to increase and diversify revenue, cultivate relationships with funders and board members, and enhance fundraising infrastructure. The role involves managing the Development Manager, collaborating with the Communications team, and serving as an external ambassador for the organization. This position requires significant experience in fundraising, strong communication skills, and a passion for A Better Balance's mission. The preferred location is New York City, but remote work is possible with occasional travel. The salary range is $140,000-$160,000.

Requirements

  • Passionate about the organization’s mission and values, and issues related to gender equity and other equity and justice issue areas
  • High comfort level in scaling small to mid-size organizations in which team members take on various levels of duties in a remote environment
  • Demonstrates proactivity and solutions thinking in ideas, communications, and planning
  • At least seven to ten years of relevant professional experience with specific experience in or ability to design a comprehensive fundraising strategy with the purpose of increasing and diversifying revenue
  • Experience serving as an effective fundraiser for an organization, with experience in or knowledge of institutional and major gift fundraising
  • Highly skilled in persuasion writing and speaking, and ability to succinctly and powerfully represent an organization's impact - either as an ambassador or in preparing the President and leadership for presentations
  • Strength in preparing, positioning, and managing leaders to serve as effective fundraising ambassadors
  • Experience in or ability to build fundraising infrastructure to support organizational size, stage, and strategic priorities, including supporting prospecting and stewardship
  • Experience confirming new sources of revenue and increasing revenue growth
  • General experience with Board interactions, managing and partnering with boards in fundraising activities, board recruitment, board training, or supporting board initiatives and communications
  • Comfort or experience effectively leveraging and partnering with boards of directors to support and engage in fundraising strategy
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to strategically position written communications and effectively translate complex work into digestible, persuasive narrative
  • Comfort managing and performing in a two-person team

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute the overall fundraising strategy to increase and diversify revenue
  • Build and manage strong relationships with the internal team, current funders and board members, and prospective funders
  • Assess and improve our fundraising infrastructure and processes
  • Represent A Better Balance externally and position and prepare the President and leadership team to be effective fundraisers
  • Further develop and engage our board of directors, increasing board diversity, and fundraising activities
  • Serve as a touch point alongside the President between the Board and staff
  • Directly manage a Development manager providing strategic guidance on all written materials and grant proposals
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications team to increase ABB’s visibility, network, and impact
  • Operationalize fundraising work through start-to-finish systems and project management
