Summary

The job description is for a temporary research assistant position at the Center for Justice Innovation's Research Department in Detroit, MI. The position involves assisting with a short-term project on gun violence research and requires travel throughout Michigan. The ideal candidate should have prior experience with gun violence research, knowledge of gun violence in Detroit, MI, and team research and analysis processes.

Requirements

  • Possession of an advanced degree (e.g., Master’s degree or Ph.D.) OR in pursuit of such a degree plus a minimum of one year of work experience in a related field OR have high social capital in the streets and direct lived experience with gun violence
  • Commitment to social justice and community organizing and experience working on gun violence-related issues, including participating in team research projects
  • Organized and detail oriented, an independent worker and problem solver, and have the ability to multi-task

Responsibilities

  • Work with NYC and Detroit participatory action research team to complete the qualitative coding and analysis of interviews conducted on gun culture in Detroit, MI
  • Enter coded interviews into online qualitative data analysis software
  • Assist with the drafting and finalization of the research memo outlining findings

Benefits

Compensation range for this position is $25 - $30 per hour based on a 35-hour work week and is commensurate with experience
