Summary

Join Climate Power as a Senior Associate, Finance and support the fiscal operations and accounting for three entities. You will handle day-to-day bookkeeping, processing payments, and maintaining accurate accounting records. Collaborate with the Director of Finance & Controller and Managing Director of Finance & Operations to contribute to Climate Power’s financial strategy. This role requires 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal operations, preferably in a nonprofit setting. The position is full-time, remote, and offers a competitive compensation package including benefits such as medical, dental, vision insurance, unlimited paid time off, and a 401k match. Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in Washington, DC, but this position can be located anywhere in the US. The ideal start date is September 2, 2025.

Requirements

  • 3 years of relevant prior work experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal operations, preferably in a nonprofit context
  • Proficiency in accounting software
  • Must be able to work independently, but also collaboratively with diverse groups of people, communities, and partners
  • Extremely strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Able to multitask and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality of work
  • Strong decision making abilities; understands when to raise questions or issues and comfort in doing so
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities; curious about identifying discrepancies and finding solutions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Willingness to stay up to date on best practices and trends relative to the work and projects in their purview
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace

Responsibilities

  • Process invoices and maintain vendor information, W9s, and 1099s. Collaborate with program teams to ensure accuracy of accounting records as to account, functional category, entity, and grant
  • Perform revenue entry and reconciliation in accordance with GAAP. Collaborate with Development team to ensure accuracy of accounting records as to revenue restrictions
  • Perform month-end and year-end procedures such as bank and credit card reconciliations, making journal entries, and maintaining schedules
  • Monitor cash balances and request cash transfers between accounts as needed
  • Processing credit card and expense reports, in collaboration with Operations team as needed
  • Maintain accounting software, including integrations
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Assist with payroll administration and preparation of forms 1099 and 1096
  • Assist with budgeting, reporting, and compliance
  • Assist with the annual financial audit
