Join the Intersections of Our Lives as a Senior Manager, Communications & Narrative Strategy! This remote position, preferably located in Washington, DC, plays a key role in shaping public discourse around reproductive justice. You will develop and execute strategic communications initiatives, manage media relationships, and create compelling content across various platforms. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and storyteller with experience in media relations, content creation, and digital advocacy. This role requires collaboration with policy and organizing teams to translate complex policy issues into impactful narratives. Some travel is required (up to 10%).
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in strategic communications, narrative strategy, policy advocacy storytelling, or digital media
- Demonstrated expertise in narrative change and messaging strategy, particularly within reproductive justice, health equity, or social justice movements
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, including a strong ability to craft compelling messages, press materials, and thought leadership content
- Proven experience in engaging with reporters, securing earned media, pitching stories, and navigating media landscapes
- Deep understanding of Reproductive Justice principles and their intersectional impact on communities of color
- A collaborative team player with strong project management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities
- Familiarity with digital communications and content management, including: Media relations platforms (e.g., Cision, Meltwater, Muck Rack)
- Social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Buffer)
- Content creation and design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut)
- Website content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace, Drupal)
- Email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, EveryAction, Action Network)
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key thought partner to the Director in shaping and implementing the overall communications and narrative strategy aligned with Intersections' mission, policy priorities, and organizational goals
- Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy to advance reproductive justice policy priorities and shape national discourse
- Build and refine core RJ messaging, ensuring consistency across media, advocacy materials, and digital platforms
- Work closely with policy and organizing teams to translate complex policy issues into compelling narratives that resonate with key audiences
- Identify and implement earned media opportunities, including pitching stories, preparing spokespeople, and securing media placements
- Draft and edit press releases, statements, opinion pieces, and other external communications materials
- Monitor media trends and coverage to inform narrative and messaging strategies
- Lead content creation efforts, including videos, infographics, social media assets, and toolkits that support advocacy campaigns
- Oversee digital storytelling strategies that engage policymakers, media, and the public
- Manage and expand Intersectionsโ digital presence, ensuring alignment with the broader RJ movement
- Utilize data-driven storytelling and polling insights to frame narratives that drive policy change
- Maintain a press list and media contact database, tracking outreach and engagement
- Develop and oversee editorial calendars, ensuring timely and coordinated communications across platforms
- Manage special projects related to communications and narrative strategy, including research on messaging trends and audience engagement
- Play a key role in planning and executing high-impact events, convenings, and advocacy days
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit, government, public policy, or advocacy communications preferred
- Previous work in movement-building, coalition communications, or political organizing is a plus
- Entrepreneurial attitude to manage a strategy and tactics from conception to completion and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Bilingual is a plus
