Summary

Join Canva's Productivity Systems team as a Senior Systems Engineer and take full ownership of Google Workspace, from user lifecycle and org unit design to automation, security, and platform optimization. Lead the development of AI-powered workflows and tools, build internal tools and automations using Python, Google Apps Script, and third-party APIs, and integrate Google Workspace with other platforms. Partner with Security and Legal teams to ensure platform compliance, troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, mentor other engineers, and contribute to Canva’s broader AI strategy. This role requires 5+ years of experience managing Google Workspace in a complex, fast-scaling environment and expertise in various technologies and platforms. Requirements

  • You have 5+ years of experience managing Google Workspace in a complex, fast-scaling environment
  • You’ve built custom tooling or automations using Python, Apps Script, or similar scripting languages
  • You’ve worked with REST APIs, OAuth2, and webhooks to integrate and extend SaaS platforms
  • You have experience working with multiple workspaces including migration and consolidation
  • You’re passionate about the potential of AI to transform workplace tooling, and have ideas for how to experiment, prototype, and scale intelligent automations
  • You understand SSO, SCIM, context-aware access, and the broader IAM/security space
  • You’ve used (or want to use) tools like Workato or similar platforms to orchestrate systems with minimal friction
  • You take pride in operational excellence—monitoring, alerting, and reliability are part of your build mindset
  • You’re great at communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and love cross-functional collaboration
  • You have hands-on experience using AI in your work to drive greater impact

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of Google Workspace: from user lifecycle and org unit design to automation, security, and platform optimisation
  • Lead development of AI-powered workflows and tools
  • Build internal tools and automations using Python, Google Apps Script, and third-party APIs to solve complex business problems
  • Integrate Google Workspace with other platforms like Slack, Atlassian, Canva, and Okta—using tools like Workato or custom-built scripts
  • Partner with Security and Legal teams to ensure the platform meets our governance and compliance needs, including IAM, DLP, and auditing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, serve as an escalation point, and continuously improve operational health
  • Mentor other engineers on platform design, automation best practices, and secure administration
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple platforms, often serving as the escalation point for difficult problems including the continuous improvement of operational excellence
  • Contribute to Canva’s broader AI strategy by identifying platform-level opportunities to use large language models (LLMs), APIs, or assistive agents
