Senior-level Backend Game Developer in Canada

The job is for a Senior Game Backend Developer at Big Viking Games, a Canadian gaming company. The successful candidate should have 6+ years of experience in Java and/or object-oriented PHP, proven expertise in distributed architecture, live ops experience, BI/Analytics experience, up-to-date knowledge of modern web security practices, proficiency in SQL queries, and a passion for games.

Requirements

• 6+ years expertise in Java and/or object-oriented PHP
• Proven experience developing services within containerized, distributed, and highly-scalable architecture
• At least 4 years working in a Game Development role
• At least one-shipped title, having owned and shipped completed features
• Live ops experience in a game environment
• BI/Analytics experience in a game environment
• Up-to-date knowledge of modern web security practices
• Proficiency in writing optimized SQL queries
• Highly skilled in automated functional and load testing methodologies to ensure the performance and stability of backend services

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement scalable game backend services for high traffic and real-time player interactions
• Drive innovation and implementation of best practices in software development
• Mentor junior developers and lead by example
• Design new and improve existing tools to support automation, live operations and marketing
• Monitor game performance, balancing security with an optimal user experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient in utilizing cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or equivalents
• Skilled in Typescript/Javascript, including experience with web development frameworks such as React
• Versed in implementing security measures and anti-cheat systems to safeguard game services against hacking, cheating, and other forms of malicious activities
• Knowledgeable in using game development engines, including Unity and Unreal
