Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or applicable expertise
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and MS Excel. (NetSuite preferred)
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Track record of being conscientious, reliable, and a self-starter
  • Belief in Orijin’s mission to reduce recidivism and improve the life chances of incarcerated learners and returning citizens
  • Authorized for work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the general ledger by recording financial transactions, preparing journal entries, and reconciling accounts
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Generate regular financial reports to support management decision-making
  • Month-End and Year-End Close: Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities, such as accruals, adjusting journal entries, and financial statement analysis
  • Expense Analysis: Assist in monitoring and analyzing expenses, identifying trends, and providing recommendations for cost-saving measures
  • Accounts Payable: Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, and prepare payments. Manage Bill.com
  • Employee Reimbursements: Process reimbursements, and ensure policy compliance and proper GL coding
  • Bank Reconciliation: Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accurate recording of cash transactions and resolve any discrepancies
  • Tax Filings: Ensure company compliance by maintaining accurate records and filing taxes as required by states for our Annual Reports & Sales and Use Tax
  • Internal Controls and Audit Support: Support the implementation and maintenance of internal control procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and relevant regulations. Assist in providing necessary documentation and information during internal and external audits
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain organized and accurate financial records, ensuring documentation is complete, properly filed, and easily accessible
  • Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Sales, Operations, HR, and Procurement, to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions. Provide support to senior accounting staff and actively contribute to process improvement initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience or internships in accounting or finance is a plus but not required

  • Location: New York City- this is a hybrid role that requires 2-3 days per week in our New York City office
  • Travel: 2-4 times per year
  • $70,000 - $75,000 a year
  • Eligible for 5% yearly bonus
