Summary

The job is for a Behavioral Requirements Engineer at Waabi, an AI company specializing in self-driving technology. The role involves creating, documenting, and verifying behavioral system requirements, acting as a point of contact for related matters, driving safety culture, improving the simulator, enhancing behavioral evaluation capabilities, streamlining processes, and working with external partners. The job requires an undergraduate degree in an engineering discipline, 3+ years of experience in automotive, robotics, aerospace or related industries, specific experience with requirements and metrics for driving behavior evaluations, building complex driving behavior scenarios, and methods and standards such as STPA, SOTIF (ISO 21448) and / or UL 4600. Bonus qualifications include experience in launching a driverless product, experience in the automotive self-driving industry, experience building software systems from scratch, experience in robotics or machine learning, proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis.

Requirements

• Undergrad required; Masters or PhD within an engineering discipline preferred
• 3+ years of automotive, robotics, aerospace or related industry experience
• Experience with requirements and metrics for driving behavior evaluations
• Experience with building complex driving behavior scenarios
• Experience with methods and standards such as STPA, SOTIF (ISO 21448) and / or UL 4600
• Strong fundamentals in mathematics, engineering and physics
• Ability to communicate complex concepts or data in a simple-yet-accurate manner
• Excellent data analysis skills with modern tools such as Python or Matlab
• Open-minded and collaborative communicator
• Passionate about self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative solutions

Responsibilities

• Own the creation, documentation, alignment and verification of all behavioral system requirements at Waabi
• Act as a central point of contact at Waabi for all matters related to your behavioral requirements and related scenario sets and communicate updates, progress and potential roadblocks to stakeholders at all levels
• Help drive Waabi’s safety culture through application of safety standards and methodologies in your area of responsibility across all supporting teams at Waabi including Systems Engineering, Hardware and Software
• Define necessary improvements for our highly realistic simulator to effectively verify all driving behaviors under all required conditions and work with other teams at Waabi to get these improvements designed and implemented
• Continuously evaluate and enhance Waabi’s behavioral evaluation capabilities, look for novel approaches, identify and apply lessons learned and ensure a detailed and comprehensive documentation that is easily accessible
• Implement tools and methodologies to streamline and automate the behavioral requirement processes where applicable
• Work with external partners on gathering data and information related to driving behaviors of trucks as well as on supporting a strong safety case for the complete self-driving system
