Team Lead - Engineering

Summary

Join Xero and lead one or two pods of engineers responsible for the Bank Reconciliation process. Drive automation of bank transactions, ensure high quality through rigorous testing, and manage core services handling bank statements. The team focuses on automated bank reconciliation, testing and quality assurance, service operations, and API and product integration. You will need substantial experience in formal people leadership, guiding software delivery and engineering teams through Lean and/or Agile methodologies, and a technical background as a software developer. You'll be a coach and mentor, possess high EQ and a growth mindset, and understand Xero's engineering standards and practices. Lead by example, collaborate cross-functionally, maintain a positive work environment, and support team growth and operational health.

Requirements

• You’ll be a seasoned Team Lead, bringing substantial experience in formal people leadership, guiding software delivery and engineering teams through Lean and/or Agile methodologies
• You'll have a technical background, previous experience as a software developer
• Your deep understanding of modern software delivery practices and the entire software development lifecycle is evident in your track record of successful team leadership
• You’ll have a proven track record as coach and mentor, adept at leveraging your extensive software delivery, technical experience, and expertise to provide impactful guidance. Enabling you to deliver the right knowledge at the right time and in the most effective way
• You'll possess high EQ and a true growth mindset; understanding that competency is not fixed but is enhanced through dedication and hard work. You'll be self aware, self regulated, motivated and empathetic, with great interpersonal skills
• You'll have a strong understanding of the importance of Xero's Engineering standards and practices and are able to coach teams to adhere to them

Responsibilities

• Lead one or two pods of engineers who own the Bank Reconciliation process at Xero
• Drive the automation of bank transactions
• Ensure top-tier quality through rigorous testing
• Manage the core services that handle bank statements
• Building systems that auto-reconcile transactions without user input
• Implementing robust testing, promoting automation, and aligning with business priorities
• Managing bank statement operations for seamless processing
• Enhancing reconciliation through API integrations, handling unreconciled counts, and suggesting automated reconciliations
• Lead by example, providing hands-on technical mentorship, guiding engineers to grow their skills and adopt best practices
• Collaborate cross-functionally working closely with Product Managers, Team Leads, Principal Engineers, Lead engineers and other technical leaders to align team efforts with broader division and company goals
• Maintain a working environment in which your team can do their best work predictably and sustainably, and with a sense of purpose
• Make sure the team has all the information they need and the right feedback loops in place to discover and deliver valuable, usable, and buildable outcomes
• Monitor and look to support the operational health of your team and products, aiming for resilience
• Support your team to hone their engineering skills and grow as individuals in order to meet the capabilities required for the team
• Your focus will be on driving engineering initiatives and ensuring the team makes progress towards their goals
