Summary

Join the Sierra Club's Stop Clearcutting CA Campaign as a Volunteer Coordinator Intern! This remote, 6-month internship (15 hours/week) based in California will have you supporting a team of volunteers. You'll be responsible for recruiting and managing volunteers, creating engaging social media content, organizing events, and maintaining campaign resources. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication and organizational skills, experience with social media, and a passion for environmental advocacy. While experience with volunteer management and social media campaigns is preferred, the most important qualities are excellent communication and organizational skills. The hourly rate is $18.

Requirements

  • Possess good verbal communications skills
  • Possess good written communication skills
  • Be competent in using Google Docs/Word, Excel/Google Sheets, and PowerPoint
  • Be able to organize data in a way that makes it easy for others to access and add to
  • Have extensive knowledge and experience with Facebook and Instagram. Understand what makes a post successful on each platform
  • Be aware of your group identities and how they have shaped your life and experiences at work. Have internally analyzed how racism and other forms of oppression in society impact relationships, systems and culture. Bring experience and skills for working effectively with colleagues across group identities and position/role

Responsibilities

  • Help with initial contact and intake of new volunteers including identification of volunteer skills and interests
  • Provide support to existing volunteers and team leads to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness with letters to the editor, social media, blogs, group meetings and the forest protection forum
  • Solicit, collect and organize relevant material from volunteers, and share it across the broader team
  • Organize and maintain copies of the campaign’s public comment submissions
  • Create and post educational posts on social media
  • Organize educational meetings for volunteers
  • Assist in public outreach events (i.e., conventions, festivals, forest protection forums, public meetings) for the purpose of public education and recruitment of volunteers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have managed a successful social media campaign that increased reach, and was shared and valued widely
  • Have experience with writing letters to the editor or similar writing
  • Have written meeting agendas, led meetings, and written minutes
  • Have managed or supported a team of volunteers
  • Have some background/education in the environmental sciences and/or California forest issues

Benefits

$18 - $18 an hour
