Accounting Manager

Summary

Join Metabase's BizOps & Finance team as a high-performer managing accounting, external audit, tax, and payments. You will oversee outsourced bookkeeping and tax accounting firms, design internal systems and processes, and build internal reporting. This role offers significant exposure to the financial management of a rapidly growing company and the opportunity to own and grow accounting functions. The team is small, requiring a hands-on approach. You'll work with external financial accountants, auditors, and tax accountants, ensuring efficient financial operations. The position requires strong quantitative skills, organizational abilities, and CPA certification.

Requirements

• Rock-solid quantitative skills: you produce error-free analysis and reports, and can diagnose and solve complex issues in our bookkeeping
• Strong organizational / project-management skills
• CPA with strong knowledge of GAAP
• Roughly 3-5 years experience, preferably in a startup, high-growth company, or public accounting firm
• Strong quantitative undergraduate degree
• Based in the US or Canada
• Low-ego attitude: no job should be too small or too large

Responsibilities

• Work with our external financial accountants, managing the month-end-close process
• Project-manage and liaise with our external financial auditors
• Work with our tax accountants, providing ad-hoc analysis in support of tax submissions and making sure things stay on-track
• Build-out internal reporting
• Design and implement financial systems and processes to improve our efficiency
• Own our payments processes, and help team members with purchases
• Manage our insurance needs
• Get stuck in where needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with tax compliance and working with external auditors
• Familiarity with QBO
• Some knowledge of SQL and / or a scripting language to help automate things (e.g. python, javascript, VBA)
