Summary

350.org is seeking an Associate Director of Global Trainings to lead the strategic training program and improve the quality of training done by 350. The role requires at least 5 years of experience in developing training strategies, strong facilitation skills, line management experience, and a deep understanding of effective practices in movement building, organizing, campaigning, mobilization, and direct action.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years experience developing training strategies for building communities, movements, and people powered actions, as part of global and regional social justice campaigns, whether as part of an NGO or grassroots network
  • Strong experience of developing training curriculum designs and resources offline - and experience or demonstrated aptitude or knowledge of designing participatory  and transformative training experiences online
  • First class facilitation and coaching skills and success in supporting non-trainers to grow their training skills
  • Demonstrated ability to break down complex content into learning experiences
  • Deep understanding and interest in effective practices and history of movement building, organizing, campaigning, mobilization, and direct action, and ability to express, share and coach that knowledge with other coworkers
  • Demonstrated experience leading and facilitating geographically dispersed project teams, with a track record of success in motivating co-workers (not necessarily line reports)
  • Strong experience building safe and accessible trainings, for participants from diverse geographic (preferably global south), racial, ethnic, class, age, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds
  • Experience working collaboratively across cultures and timezones, and a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI), anti-racism or anti-oppression work
  • Decent working written and spoken English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to powerfully and regularly communicate and build alignment with key coworkers and external stakeholders behind joint vision, goals and decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with higher management to make propositions and act sensitively and strategically in complex situations to move towards positive outcomes
  • Acts with credibility, following through on commitments, and uses ethical considerations and candidness to discuss tough issues and guide decisions and actions
  • Acts autonomously, creatively and innovatively to seize opportunities and drive projects from conception to completion, including advocating for resources
  • Responds positively to changing circumstances, and takes personal responsibility to adapt behaviour, plans and professional development to maintain effective performance

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic training program for 350 embedded into our priority campaigning and organising strategies and projects, ensuring high quality
  • Lead analysis of the quality of our training on campaigns and organising across the organisation
  • Coach teams on campaigns and organising strategy as it relates to designing training
  • Line manage the Global Trainings Manager
  • Manages and approves the Trainings Team budget
  • Leads the Trainings Team annual plan
  • Leads Trainings.350.org resources and website that support the wider movement
  • Lead on major cross-organisational projects related to training
  • Occasional support to organisation-wide and team-specific facilitation
  • Supports the healthy functioning of the global Organising and Campaigning “Communities of Practice”, made up of organising and Campaigning staff across the organisation
  • Contributes to the development of the joint Global Movement Support Directorate’s strategy
  • Develop and maintain a network of external contacts around climate and social justice training best practice, spotting emerging opportunities and trends
  • Works closely with other Departments across the organisation to ensure training strategy is connected to other teams work (eg. campaigns, comms)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding & experience working with marginalized communities deeply affected by climate change and fossil fuels, such as indigenous communities on the front lines of fighting the extractive industry
  • Experience in budget management
