Responsibilities
- Work co-operatively in teams to provide quality service to clients – sharing, gaining and gathering information
- Establish rapport with peer client levels and always be professional and courteous in dealing with them
- Contribute new ideas within the team and at team meetings
- Learn and develop technical competence by completing a degree qualification or professional accreditation
- Apply self diligently to learning and understanding technical skills and on the job practices and business processes
- Participate in technical discussions relating to client assignments
- Assume responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced team members and become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax returns prepared by the firm. This includes gaining an understanding of current tax law, including depreciation
- Become proficient in providing assistance with audits, 401 k audits, compilations, and reviews
- Document work effectively
- Start to become familiar with the rules, requirements, code of conduct and standards of the AICPA, and the authoritative literature established by the FASB, IRS, FTB and PCAOB
- Obtain a working knowledge of firm technology and tax and accounting research techniques
- Assume responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced team members
- Develop a method for complete self-review before moving projects on to the Senior Accountant
- Work within budgeted time allotted on projects and keep the Senior Accountant in the loop regarding open items
- Know the importance of effective relationships between the client and the firm
- Act professionally in all dealings at peer clients level
- Build working relationships at peer client level
- Seek to gain knowledge of client businesses
- Work with budget as well as tracks budget progress in a timely and organized manner
- Develop a working knowledge of company’s services, systems and processes and is able to apply them with support and direction
- Understand the importance of selling and marketing the firm’s services
- Undertake research to support sales and marketing initiatives
- Build a network of peers internally across disciplines
- Build a network of peers externally through professional associations, university/school studies and client work
- Develop an understanding of the firm structure, the people, and the firm’s clients
- Assist in proposal development and research gathering as requested
- Understand performance expectations and plans, organizes and works efficiently
- Develop an awareness of the firm’s vision and business strategies
- Develop an understanding of the business plan and their role in achieving it including utilization, realization, etc
- Develop a good basic business sense by researching market trends and business developments and understands their relevance to clients
- Complete tasks within timeframes under direction and updates the Senior Accountant regarding open items and issues regarding the budget
- Effectively plan and organize own work effort
- Become familiar with and adhere to the firm’s policies, procedures and performance standards
- Participate in office wide initiatives – recruitment, marketing etc
- Recognize and actively seek on the job learning to understand their role and responsibilities
- Participate actively in all formal learning and development opportunities
- Seek regular feedback on performance from Senior Accountants
- Support peers and less experienced Staff Accountants with on the job learning where appropriate
- Work with a Senior Accountant or Manager to set and monitor career goals
- Develop a depth of knowledge in tools and systems and processes (within their discipline) and their practical application
- Develop a working knowledge and understanding of the full range of services
- Utilize knowledge systems for learning and research purposes
- Demonstrate an active interest in the business world by keeping abreast of market trends and business developments
