Summary
Join Mozilla.ai as a Builders in Residence and contribute to the development of open-source AI. This is a 3-month (extendable) contractor role, ideal for PhD students, recent graduates, or applied scientists seeking a short-term project. You will collaborate with a team of ML and engineering experts, focusing on areas like agent effectiveness, multi-agent system analysis, meta-learning for recommender systems, and human-AI interaction. The role involves contributing to open-source codebases, creating publishable artifacts (whitepapers, datasets), and potentially pitching your own project aligned with Mozilla's mission. Successful candidates will have a strong background in ML/AI, publications in top conferences, experience with multi-agent systems or federated learning, and strong Python development skills. Mozilla offers a remote work environment and a collaborative, purpose-driven culture.
Requirements
- Pursuing a PhD degree in ML/AI, Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related disciplines; or equivalent experience in applied R&D
- Strong fundamentals in machine learning and AI
- Lead-author publications in top ML/AI conferences and ML-adjacent venues (e.g., ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, AAMAS, COLM, AIES, FAccT, RLC, CHI, CSCW, ACL, EMNLP, etc)
- Experience developing or interest in multi-agent systems and/or federated learning
- Strong development skills in Python
- Experience using core machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, HF Transformers, Gym/Gymnasium, etc
- Excellent communication, teamwork and a problem solving, results-oriented attitude

- Work toward other forms of publishable artifacts such as academic whitepapers and open datasets. We can cater this to your interests and your project
