Community Manager

Mercury
Summary
Join Mercury, a financial technology company, as a Community Manager to engage with founder and builder audiences on platforms like Reddit and Mercury-owned spaces. You will be responsible for leading community engagement, monitoring high-signal threads, surfacing opportunities for organic engagement, building trust in Mercury's voice, managing and growing Mercury's owned Slack communities, creating a feedback loop between community conversations and internal teams, collaborating with the Growth Marketing team, sharing learnings and insights, partnering with the social team, and identifying opportunities to jump into conversations. This role requires proven experience building or moderating online communities, fluency in internet culture, deep understanding of founder needs, high autonomy, strong communication skills, ability to analyze community insights, experience collaborating across teams, and thriving in fast-paced environments.
Requirements
- Have proven experience building or moderating online communities, especially on Reddit and Slack
- Be fluent in internet culture and niche forums (e.g. Reddit, Discord, IndieHackers), and have a track record of showing up authentically in those spaces
- Deeply understand founder needs, motivations, and trusted spaces — ideally from having been a founder yourself, an early team member at a startup, or through direct work with founders at accelerators or similar ecosystems
- Be highly autonomous and proactive — you consistently surface opportunities and initiate engagement without waiting for direction
- Be a strong communicator who prioritizes authentic, dialogue-driven community engagement over brand broadcasting
- Know how to analyze community insights and turn them into actionable feedback for cross-functional teams (e.g. marketing, product)
- Have experience collaborating across social, content, and growth teams to align community initiatives with broader strategy
- Thrive in ambiguity and fast-paced environments, with a natural bias toward experimentation and iteration
- Bring sharp copy instincts and a strong sense of brand voice, with experience contributing to content or communications
Responsibilities
- Lead engagement on Reddit and other external community platforms (e.g. Facebook groups, IndieHackers, etc.)
- Monitor high-signal threads and actively participate in a way that’s native to the platform
- Surface opportunities for organic engagement, sentiment shaping, and content inspiration
- Build trust in Mercury’s voice by being present, helpful, and founder-first
- Manage and grow Mercury’s owned Slack communities
- Run our existing founder Slack
- Potentially spin up and lead a new community tailored to a different founder segment
- Create a strong feedback loop between community conversations and internal teams (marketing, product, support)
- Be the connective tissue across paid and organic efforts
- Collaborate with the Growth Marketing team to ensure continuity between our paid Reddit strategy and our organic presence
- Share learnings and community insights regularly with the broader Marketing and Product teams
- Partner with our social team to be our “eyes and ears” across more spaces on the internet
- Own social listening on forums to monitor conversations around business banking, startups, and Mercury, and partner with our social team to listen across other channels
- Identify opportunities to jump into conversations early, correct misinformation, or highlight wins
- Collaborate on brainstorming opportunities for founder-focused content and initiatives
