Summary

Join Marqeta’s expanding European Sales team as a Director of Sales (Core) based in the UK. Lead a team focused on acquiring and expanding relationships with prominent digital banks, fintech disruptors, and embedded finance companies. Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to expand Marqeta’s presence across the UK and Europe. Identify and engage decision-makers at top-tier financial institutions, advising them on modernizing card and payment solutions. Become a trusted expert in Marqeta’s platform, articulating technical value and influencing complex buying decisions. Deliver accurate pipeline forecasts and performance updates, and monitor evolving customer needs and the competitive landscape. Build and nurture a high-performing sales culture.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in B2B sales and account management, with a consistent record of achieving and exceeding goals
  • 2+ years of experience leading high-performing sales teams
  • Strong domain knowledge in payments, fintech, banking, or financial services — with the confidence to navigate complex customer organisations
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex technology into clear, compelling business value
  • A passion for innovation, customer success, and building the future of financial services

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 4+ Account Executives and Account Managers focused on acquiring and expanding relationships with large, high-impact organisations across fintech, banking, and embedded finance
  • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan aligned to key growth goals — expanding Marqeta’s presence across the UK and wider Europe
  • Identify and engage decision-makers at top-tier digital and traditional financial institutions, advising them on how to launch, scale, and modernise their card and payment solutions
  • Become a trusted expert in Marqeta’s platform — articulating technical value, solving customer challenges, and influencing complex buying decisions
  • Deliver accurate pipeline forecasts and performance updates, ensuring clear visibility into team progress and deal velocity
  • Monitor evolving customer needs, fintech market shifts, and the competitive landscape to continuously refine your sales strategy
  • Align with key internal teams — including Delivery, Strategy, and Partnerships — to unlock value for customers and accelerate time to market
  • Build and nurture a high-performing, inclusive sales culture by shaping hiring, coaching, and go-to-market best practices across your team

Card issuing experience is preferred
