Summary

The Engineering Team Manager at Hive is responsible for managing reliability and integration engineering pods, driving initiatives and priorities, contributing to engineering-wide initiatives, recruiting engineers, improving processes and tools, and having 2+ years of experience managing an effective engineering team and 5+ years of hands-on experience building production-grade web applications. The ideal candidate is a direct, empathetic communicator who is constantly learning and has experience with technologies such as React, Typescript, Python, Django, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, Clickhouse, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and is a quick learner. Bonus points are given for previous experience managing site reliability metrics, leading a team in a larger more scaled environment, and clearly articulating why they went down the management track. The compensation range for this role is $140,000 to $200,000 and benefits include meaningful salary and equity, health insurance with a parental leave top-up program, open vacation/PTO policy, and flexible work hours.

Requirements

  • You’ve spent 2+ years managing an effective engineering team
  • You have 5+ years of hands-on experience building production-grade web applications

Responsibilities

  • Manage our reliability and integration engineering pods
  • Coaching and mentoring the team as well as setting and holding a high bar for performance
  • Drive the initiatives and priorities for your teams, working with dependencies across the company
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Hive’s engineering leadership team
  • Recruit great engineers, in collaboration with our People team
  • Improve our processes and tools to help team be more productive and deliver better outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previously established and managed site reliability metrics, including monitoring site performance, analytics, and other infrastructure metrics
  • Have 1-3 years of experience leading a team in a larger more scaled environment
  • Are able to clearly articulate why you made the intentional decision to go down a management track
