Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in an engineering management role
- Expertise in backend development and system design, with a strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and cloud architectures
- Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or similar, and a solid grasp of SQL and database modeling
- The ability to communicate technical concepts effectively, both within the engineering team and to non-technical stakeholders
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of backend engineers working on service-oriented systems that power our core shopping data infrastructure
- Own team execution, delivery, and growth, ensuring projects are well-scoped, prioritized, and delivered on time and at high quality
- Partner with technical leads, product managers, and other teams to align on roadmaps, dependencies, and long-term technical investments
- Foster a healthy and inclusive team culture, supporting career development through mentorship, feedback, and growth opportunities
- Participate in system design reviews, architecture conversations, and code reviews, providing input to ensure technical excellence while advocating for clarity and maintainability
- Champion engineering best practices, including testing, documentation, reliability, and observability
- Build and maintain a robust testing system, driving strategy and implementation of unit testing, end-to-end testing, and CI/CD pipelines
- Act as a strategic voice in planning, balancing short-term product goals with long-term scalability and system resilience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data modeling and systems that support high-volume transactional or catalog data is a strong plus
- Proven ability to grow and support engineers at different career stages
- Strong organizational and execution skills—you help teams get things done while keeping people energized and motivated
