Engineering Operations Specialist

Summary

Join ecobee's CDM Engineering team as an Engineering Operations Specialist and play a key role in improving engineering practices. You will work with engineering leadership to define, measure, and improve work systems, advocate for quality, facilitate the use of metrics, administer Jira and Confluence, coach teams on continuous improvement, manage escalation processes, and potentially manage the API partner program. This role involves collaborating with a 100+ person team to enhance software delivery and create a sustainable world. The position requires excellent communication, experience with delivery work systems, and expertise in using engineering metrics. Requirements

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with delivery work system design, improvement, and measurement
• Experience intelligently surfacing and guiding the use of engineering and delivery metrics to create visibility and support decision making
• Comfort and experience with the full SDLC
• A track record of continuously improving tooling and development/delivery practices and making life easier for developers, testers, and leaders
• A wealth of experience setting up, maintaining, and improving the use of Atlassian Jira and Confluence
• A love of the craft of software development, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, design patterns, etc
• A demonstrated ability to influence beyond your immediate base of power
• A history of continuously challenging yourself and the status quo by finding new and better ways to solve complex problems
• A strong desire to learn and grow

Responsibilities

• Working with engineering leadership to define, measure, and improve our work systems in pursuit of effective, efficient, consistent, and predictable delivery
• Advocating for and supporting quality as a first-class activity that is built into the way we work in terms of our daily mindset, development practices, bug management, etc
• Facilitating the healthy and sensible use of metrics to drive important discussions and to inform decision making
• Administering and coaching on the correct use of Jira and Confluence within ecobee
• Working with and coaching leaders and teams on continuous improvement related to mindset, work systems, process, tooling, and communication
• Managing our internal escalation process
• Potentially managing our API partner program

Preferred Qualifications

• Meaningful experience with Kanban and Scrum done well
• Meaningful experience with and training on Agile beyond the use canned frameworks
• Previous experience in a quality-focused leadership role like Staff Quality Engineering or QA Manager. This is not a QA role, but we have found that people with a QA leadership background are often well-suited for Engineering Operations
