Summary
Join Outland Youth Employment Program as a remote Head Cook and play a vital role in our youth program. You will be responsible for all aspects of food production, from meal planning and safe food preparation to maintaining a clean kitchen and dining areas. The 6-week summer camp involves providing meals and snacks for 30 youth participants, requiring on-site living. Maintain a warm and professional disposition. The position offers rustic accommodation and involves various tasks, including food ordering, maintaining logs, adhering to safety regulations, and assisting with closing ceremonies. You will also mentor participants and maintain a positive presence. The role requires a Food Safe certificate and offers zero cost of living (meals and accommodation provided) with day-rated pay.
Requirements
- Applicants must have a current Food Safe certificate
- High standards in maintaining a clean and organized Kitchen
- Be comfortable living in a remote environment
- Experience running an industrial kitchen
- Be able to handle the following physical demands: Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders or stairs
- Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time
- Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
- Perform work with arms at full length
- Work with arms above shoulder height
Responsibilities
- Be up and ready for work each day
- Food preparation for the day, Including Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
- Adhering to a budget
- Cleaning of the kitchen and dishes
- Serving of Food
- Meal Planning
- Food ordering and receiving of food orders through GFS and grocery store shopping
- Maintain HACCP and temperature logs
- Adhere to Outland's Health and Safety regulations
- Communication with the Camp Supervisor on daily/future plan
- Assist with any/all associated with the closing ceremonies
- Maintain a positive presence with participants, and provide mentorship

Preferred Qualifications
- Current Level 1 First Aid certificate is an asset
- Camp cooking experience is an asset
- Individuals who have an interest in culinary, education, training, or socially supportive environments
