Summary

Join the Wikimedia Foundation's Product & Technology department as a UX Copywriter for a 2-3 month contract. Requirements

  • Speak and write clearly and concisely about your work to stakeholders
  • Welcome constructive feedback and engage in useful discourse to continually improve your work
  • Generate ideas for the future and think tactically about how to deliver work in the present
  • Be self-motivated and enjoy exploring how UX writing is evolving in the digital tech industry and applying these learnings to your work
  • Have 3+ years of experience as a UX writer contributing on design teams
  • Have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related work experience

Responsibilities

  • Reduce UX complexity by creating clear, concise, and compelling copy to provide a delightful experience for the global user base
  • Work closely with UX Designers and Product Managers to explore the effectiveness of various copy ideas through user testing and research
  • Develop and shape UX copywriting guidelines for products that are easy for others to understand and apply
  • Consider accessibility standards and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to fulfill the needs of the global audience
  • Apply new copy guidelines to existing user flows, paying attention to how word choice and tone influence the narrative flow
  • Provide copy in simple language easily understood by those with English as a second language, suitable for translation, and accompanied by instructions for translators
  • Collaborate closely with designers, researchers, product managers, engineers, and marketers to ensure their perspectives are included in your work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have experience working with translators to translate your copy
  • Have a background in content consumption, publishing, education, or news
  • Have familiarity with Free Knowledge and/or Open Source communities
  • Speak more than one of the nearly 300 languages of the Wikimedia projects audiences
