Summary

Join Common App, a national non-profit organization, as a Senior UX Writer and contribute to a mission-driven team dedicated to improving the college admissions process. Reporting to the Senior Director of User Experience, you will lead the development and maintenance of user-friendly content across Common App products. Collaborate with designers, researchers, and product managers to craft compelling content that aligns with user needs and business objectives. This role requires a Bachelor's degree, 4-6 years of experience in UX writing, and proficiency in human-centered design methodologies. Requirements

  • Live in the United States
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Communications, English, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4-6 years of experience in UX writing, content design, or related fields
  • Highly proficient in human-centered design methodology and application and usability best-practices specifically in content development and editing
  • Extensive experience in creating clear, concise, and user-friendly copy for a variety of audiences and experiences
  • Exceptional communication, active listening, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and collaboratively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
  • Proficient in design and documentation tools such as Figma, FigJam, Google Docs, Confluence etc. for creating content and collaborating with stakeholders
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize the demands of multiple projects, deadlines, and assignments without sacrificing the quality of work
  • Deep knowledge of and commitment to accessibility best practices, including Section 508 guidelines and WCAG specifications
  • Ability to put aside personal opinions and biases to understand and achieve actual user needs/desires
  • Ability to remain level-headed and exercise good judgment when under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively both as an individual contributor and as part of a diverse, virtual team

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and maintain user-friendly, intuitive content across Common App products
  • Work collaboratively across the organization with designers, researchers, product managers, and other stakeholders to craft compelling, human-centered content that enhances user experience and engagement
  • Help drive the tone, language, and content optimization that aligns with both user needs and business objectives, ensuring consistency, clarity, and usability in all deliverables

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education or on student-related digital products
  • Knowledge or experience using generative AI to support UX writing and design processes
  • A passion for higher education is a plus
