Learning Design Associate

Join Nova Pioneer as a Learning Design Associate for Secondary School to lead curriculum development in Science or Second Languages. This role offers the chance to shape a transformative school model impacting African youth. You will create curriculum scope and sequence, daily lesson plans, and assessments, infusing Cambridge resources and technology. The ideal candidate possesses 2+ years of experience in a rigorous setting, subject matter expertise, and curriculum development skills. A passion for improving the lives of African youth and strong writing skills are essential. Data-driven decision making, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities are also key.

Requirements

• Have 2+ years working experience in a rigorous, high-expectations setting
• Have distinctive interest/knowledge and experience in the subject for which you design i.e. the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) OR Second Languages (Afrikaans/isiZulu)
• Have experience with or understanding of various curricula - experience with Cambridge objectives is ideal but not essential
• Have a track record of developing creative and rigorous curricula that has led to distinctive learning outcomes
• Have a desire to further develop your curriculum development skills and apply them to transform the lives of African youth
• Have strong writing skills and are able to use those to create lessons that will help students learn it while being engaged and interested
• Be driven by data and can use data from student assessments to strengthen lessons and spiral in key skills
• Be flexible and open to change - handle uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity well
• Be a problem solver - be proactive in identifying issues and address these thoroughly by making effort to find appropriate solutions
• Be excited about our organizational culture—and in particular, be fired up to challenge yourself by embracing mutual vulnerability and a firehose of feedback

Responsibilities

• Create the scope and sequence for curriculum design across Science or Second Language subjects and grades
• Support the Learning Design Team Lead in creating the day-by-day plan for the Science curriculum including Physics, Chemistry and Biology or the Second Languages curriculum (Afrikaans and/or isiZulu)
• Receive professional development on the Nova Pioneer Model of Learning Design, integrated curriculum design, Project-Based Learning a variety of thinking routines and skills in lessons
• Create lesson plans with an enquiry focus aligned to relevant curricula
• Infuse the Cambridge Curriculum resources as well as outside resources into lessons
• Research and design assessments and create rubrics and marking schemes for assessments
• Design templates and documents for ease of use by teachers across grades
• Plan with student collaboration and group work in mind
• Develop technology-rich lesson designs and plans
• Use constructive feedback in reflection, redesign and recreation of plans and documents
