Summary
Join Modular's MAX Platform Tooling Team as an Engineering Manager to lead the development of cutting-edge tools for the Mojo programming language. You will spearhead the creation of a low-latency debugger, a modern profiler, a scalable build system, and internal developer infrastructure. This role demands a hands-on approach, deep systems experience, and a product-first mentality. You will collaborate with compiler engineers, language designers, and the open-source community. Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant domain experience
- 3+ years of proven experience leading engineering teams (preferably in systems, compilers, or language tooling)
- Deep knowledge of one or more of: debuggers (e.g., LLDB, GDB), profilers (e.g., Perf, VTune), build systems (e.g., Bazel, Ninja), or dev infra
- Passion for high-performance computing, developer experience, or AI infrastructure
- Ability to operate in ambiguous environments and chart a clear path
- Strong software engineering skills in C++, Rust, Python, or similar
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of engineers
- Develop a low-latency, deeply integrated debugger for Mojo
- Develop a modern, intuitive profiler that reveals performance bottlenecks across heterogeneous hardware
- Develop a scalable build system that understands AI workloads and accelerates iteration
- Develop internal developer infrastructure that unblocks Modular engineers and external contributors alike
- Help define the roadmap for tooling development
- Write code when necessary
- Collaborate closely with compiler engineers, Mojo language designers, AI infra experts, and the broader open-source community
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source tooling
- Familiarity with LLVM, MLIR, or other compiler toolchains
- Experience with heterogeneous hardware (CPU, GPU, ASIC) profiling or build orchestration
- Mojo curiosity, Python love, C++ scars
