Media Relations Manager

Summary

Join the School of Visual Arts' Communications Department as a Temporary Media Relations Manager for a three-month period. This part-time, remote position offers a flexible schedule (35 hours/month, Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm) and an hourly rate of $50. Responsibilities include monitoring press coverage, creating reports, sending press releases and pitches, responding to inquiries, and executing press strategies for various events. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 2-3 years of public relations experience. Knowledge of specific software and excellent communication skills are essential. This temporary role provides an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and influential artistic community.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communication or Journalism
• 2-3 years’ experience working in public relations
• Knowledge of Cision, MyEmma, CMS, Microsoft Office, Google Drive
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Skill in oral and written communication
• Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing
• Skill in performing manual work
• Skill in planning and organizing
• Skill in operating a personal computer and related equipment

Responsibilities

• Monitor ongoing press coverage of the College via daily Cision digests
• Create a monthly Media Activity Report and Media Analytics Report from Cision reporting
• Send monthly roundups of SVA’s public events and exhibition pitches to press, following up as needed
• Edit campus exhibition press releases provided by academic departments
• Write new press releases when necessary, sending in MyEmma using lists compiled in Cision
• Respond to incoming press inquiries
• Execute press strategies for SVA’s 2025 Commencement exercises, thesis shows/projects and other opportunities taking place during this timeframe
• Rework press releases and press hits into features for our website, sva.edu

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in art, design, or related field(s)
• Experience in the arts or higher education
