Join Temporal as our Open Source Community Outreach Lead to expand our influence within the open-source ecosystem. You will bridge the technical and human aspects of open source, viewing contributions as community growth opportunities. This role involves identifying impactful open-source projects for contributions, collaborating with internal teams to maintain example projects, enabling engineer contributions to third-party projects, and reporting on contribution growth. You will represent Temporal in community groups and partner with marketing to highlight our open-source involvement. Success is measured by increased code contributions, enhanced brand awareness, diverse engineer engagement in open source, and a respected community presence. Requirements
- Strong experience contributing to or stewarding open source projects—whether as an engineer, advocate, or community leader
- A solid understanding of open source governance, licensing, and contribution best practices
- The ability to align contribution strategy with developer personas and marketing goals without compromising authenticity
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, especially working with engineering, product, and developer relations
- A passion for developer experience and sustainable community building
Responsibilities
- Identify high-impact open source projects (ours and others’) where contributions will build credibility, trust, and visibility with key developer audiences, including backend engineers, software architects, platform engineers, fullstack engineers, Data/AI/ML engineers, and SREs
- Collaborate with internal teams to grow and maintain a vibrant portfolio of example projects, SDKs, and integrations
- Enable and support engineers in contributing to third-party projects (especially in adjacent ecosystems where our developers live)
- Track and report on contribution growth, adoption metrics, and the impact of our presence in OSS communities
- Represent Temporal in community working groups, SIGs, and foundation initiatives
- Partner with Developer Marketing and DevRel to tell authentic stories about our OSS involvement and amplify our presence
