Summary

Join OpenAI's Global Affairs team as the Germany & CEE Policy and Partnerships Lead, developing strategies and leading public policy engagement in Germany and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). You will build and manage relationships with policymakers, civil society groups, researchers, and experts. This role involves shaping strategic initiatives, preparing leaders for engagements, and representing OpenAI in various forums. The ideal candidate possesses experience managing relationships with policymakers and civil society groups, a strong understanding of AI-related legislative and regulatory issues, and excellent communication and strategic thinking skills. Based in Munich or Berlin (remote), this role requires frequent travel and offers relocation assistance. OpenAI is committed to building safe and beneficial AI for all of humanity.

Requirements

  • Experience managing relationships with both policymakers and international civil society groups
  • Sophisticated understanding of AI and AI-related (copyright, competition, privacy, data, product safety, consumer protection) legislative and regulatory issues and processes
  • Sound judgment and outstanding personal integrity
  • Ability to execute in fast and flexible environments through rapid cycles of analysis, decision, and action
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical and policy concepts to diverse audiences
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the European Union policy-making system, institutions, and processes, and the key policy issues and debates related to AI
  • Track record of effectively working with cross-functional teams, especially engineering and research teams, and aligning a diverse range of internal and external partners
  • Genuine care and knowledge about the impact of technology on society

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies and lead OpenAI’s public policy engagement in Germany and CEE
  • Drive campaigns on specific policy issues
  • Develop and manage relationships with key international partners, including civil society groups, researchers and experts
  • Advance policies and partnerships that align with OpenAI’s mission
  • Help to shape strategic initiatives and policy documents
  • Prepare our leaders for engagements with government officials
  • Represent OpenAI in private and public forums

Preferred Qualifications

Previous work on AI issues and technical AI development expertise
