Summary

Join Digital Extremes as a Principal Environment Artist and help bring the enchanting world of Soulframe to life. You will create visually stunning and immersive environments using a proprietary engine across multiple platforms. Your expertise in art theory and modern DCC applications will be crucial in shaping the game's visual identity. A strong portfolio showcasing your high-fantasy work is essential. The ideal candidate thrives in an agile environment and possesses a keen understanding of efficient production techniques. You will collaborate with a team, provide and receive feedback, and mentor less experienced artists. This role requires significant experience in the video game industry.

Requirements

  • 7+ years previous experience in the video game industry
  • A portfolio that demonstrates excellent modelling and a strong understanding of environment texturing workflows (IE: PBR, Designer, tiling/trim/hybrid trim/decal textures and similar)
  • A strong understanding of modern DCC apps (Designer, medium poly and sub-d modeling, Painter, etc.)
  • Strong lighting skills and experience creating normal maps and applying shaders
  • Above average ability to model, texture, and optimize props and assets for a state of the art next-gen game engine
  • Possess exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • University degree in visual arts with specialization in graphic design, commercial art, graphic communications or cartooning OR completion of a college diploma program in graphic art OR Equivalent experience
  • A solid ability to optimize your models
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Utilize your advanced traditional art skills and expertise with the latest DCC applications to create high-quality 3D models
  • Develop game-ready art assets, including modeling, texturing, and UV mapping, with guidance from the Lead Artists and Art Directors
  • Stay aligned with the projectโ€™s vision, maintaining a deep understanding of the art and story of Soulframe
  • Contribute innovative and original ideas toward all art aspects of the gameโ€™s production and development
  • Actively participate in the feedback loop including accepting feedback from and providing feedback within the art team as required staying current on the scope and understanding of the project
  • Coordinate with Production and the team on the generation and supply of marketing assets as defined by the schedule
  • Multitask effectively, prioritize competing demands, and following through on details
  • Support and mentor other artists who are less experienced and require more direction
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • An excellent understanding of efficient techniques for game production, traditional art background or experience, strong composition skills, and a sense of colour theory
  • Have a genuine interest and enthusiasm for Soulframe
