Requirements

  • Over 3 years of experience in AAA console/PC game development, including more than 1 year with Unreal Engine
  • Strong portfolio showcasing examples of world and local lighting work
  • Ability to artistically interpret concepts and creatively exceed initial ideation
  • Solid understanding of traditional art skills and foundational design competencies (shape, form, texture, value, color)
  • Great understanding of the principles of animation
  • Good eye for the motion of real world objects and VFX
  • Keen observational understanding of the motion of real world objects and VFX
  • Good knowledge of the constraints of real-time effects
  • Good experience with various techniques and tools for creating VFX animations (standard particle systems, fluid simulations, physics simulations, etc.)
  • Good experience in creating all source art needed for VFX (textures, geometry, flipbooks, normal maps, vector field textures, etc.)
  • Great experience with UE4/UE5 tools for VFX creation (or similar engine tools)
  • Strong experience in creating complex pixel and vertex shaders
  • Good experience with scripting (visual or otherwise) in the context of VFX
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new styles, techniques, and workflows with minimal guidance
  • Ability to collaborate with department leads and different teams to solve artistic and technical challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality VFX that are technically and artistically aligned with the projectโ€™s universe and visual direction
  • Translate concept art and design documents into prototypes and implement them as real-time VFX in the game under supervision
  • Create ambient environment effects to enhance mood, tell a story, and make the game world feel alive
  • Deliver work within specifications and adhere to workflow pipelines and deadlines
  • Apply established asset organizational structures and naming conventions to ensure cohesion within the VFX pipeline
  • Participate in reviews and professionally implement feedback from leads and peers
  • Create gameplay effects that enhance the gameโ€™s excitement and provide necessary player feedback
  • Create high-fidelity effects for cinematics and marketing materials
  • Innovate new techniques for next-gen hardware and work with engineers and tech art to expand the VFX toolset
  • Analyze scenes to optimize performance and ensure effects are built efficiently
  • Utilize various tools to create game effects (traditional particles, pixel and vertex shaders, baked physics simulations, stock animations, etc.)
  • Work with developers across disciplines to ensure VFX are integrated effectively into the game
  • Collaborate with designers to create effects for scripted events and key story moments
  • Work with the lighting department to create atmosphere, depth in scenes, and reinforce the color palette
  • Participate in R&D initiatives to explore new techniques and improve pipelines and workflows
