As a key member of the finance team, you will actively support the business by representing Finance on corporate projects, leading departmental initiatives, and ensuring a strong financial control environment. Core responsibilities include designing and implementing internal controls, supporting the month-end close process, creating documentation for Finance policies and procedures, and identifying opportunities for process improvements. You will also support the annual audit process, research tax issues, provide advice to team members, and act as a backup resource for accounting tasks. This role requires a recognized accounting designation, a minimum of five years of experience, and advanced knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite applications. The ideal candidate will possess strong time management, organizational, and communication skills.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized accounting designation program (i.e. CA, CMA, CPA or CGA)
- A minimum of five yearsβ experience in the accounting field
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software (i.e. Microsoft Dynamics 365, general ledger, accounts payable, cash management, etc.)
- Superior time management and organizational skills as well as strong project management skills to manage competing priorities
- Intermediate knowledge of all aspects of financial and operational accounting, including auditing, tax and fund and intercompany accounting
- Knowledge of audit schedules and audit working paper preparation
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications
- The demonstrated ability to collect, compare and analyze all information and figures with great attention to detail, while using reason and logic to solve complex problems and concepts
- Exceptional communication skills and a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
Responsibilities
- Represent the Finance team on corporate projects and lead departmental initiatives in support of organizational goals
- Design, implement and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, by assessing and documenting risks and control procedures for balance sheet categories, and conducting sample testing of controls to assess effectiveness
- Support period-end close by overseeing accuracy and completeness of the balance sheet
- Create and maintain documentation for Finance policies and procedures
- Proactively identify and implement opportunities for process improvements
- Support annual audit process
- Research tax issues as required
- Provide advice and support to team members to resolve accounting issues and questions
- Act as a backup resource for accounting, reconciliations, and accounts payable approvals
- Follow internal accounting controls to keep financial information confidential
- Perform other duties within competence, as assigned
