Summary

Join the CDC Foundation as a Senior Advisor for state and local tobacco control initiatives! This fully remote, grant-funded position (until 12/31/2026) offers a salary range of $145,000-$170,000 plus benefits. As a subject matter expert, you will provide technical assistance and guidance to state and local governments on reducing the harms of e-cigarettes and tobacco products. You will work with health departments and partner organizations to implement evidence-based programs and policies protecting youth from nicotine addiction. The ideal candidate possesses deep knowledge of tobacco control and strong communication skills. Domestic travel is required up to 10% annually.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in public health, public administration, public policy, demography or other related field, required
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in tobacco control, with progressive leadership experience in public policy and government technical assistance
  • In-depth knowledge of evidence-based tobacco control strategies, including policy, systems, and environmental approaches
  • Strong understanding of the structure and functioning of state and local health departments
  • Proven ability to build relationships with public health agencies, partners, and community organizations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience effectively communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and senior leaders from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, donors and partners
  • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in collaborating with individuals of varying levels of seniority both internally and externally
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10 percent annually

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, customized technical assistance to state and local partners on evaluating and implementing evidence-based programs and policies that protect youth from the harmful effects of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products
  • Provide expert analysis and technical support on key tobacco control principles, including flavor restrictions, point-of-sale regulations, and youth access enforcement
  • Support jurisdictions in interpreting and applying evidence-based practices, CDC Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs, and other federal/state guidance
  • Monitor and interpret emerging trends in tobacco control and use and provide guidance on responding to evolving trends
  • Work with jurisdictions to design and implement performance measures and evaluation plans for tobacco control programs
  • Travel domestically as needed to provide technical support and disseminate findings for designated programs and the CDC Foundation (up to 10 percent annually)
  • Participates in and/or leads special projects and other duties as assigned

Benefits

Salary Range: $145,000 - $170,000, plus benefits
