Summary

Join the National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) and the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund (NIRH Action Fund) as their new Senior Director of Institutional Giving! This full-time, remote position offers a competitive salary ($107,000-$115,000) and a comprehensive benefits package. You will lead and expand a portfolio of institutional funders, securing support for the organization's mission. Responsibilities include developing and implementing fundraising strategies, building and maintaining relationships with funders, conducting research to identify new funding opportunities, and writing compelling grant proposals. The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of relevant experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit management, exceptional writing skills, and strong interpersonal skills. A preference is given to candidates within a four-hour radius of New York City.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years of relevant development experience, working directly in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit management with a focus on foundations and grants
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to distill complex policy and advocacy work into clear and persuasive proposals
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Comfort working with staff at all levels in a highly collaborative environment
  • Excellent creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to work independently, while also collaborating in a team setting
  • Ability to travel ever 1-2 months to meet with funders or team members
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Proficient with donor CRM databases
  • Professional discretion and confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve the revenue goals of the foundations and grants program
  • Build and maintain comprehensive systems for tracking deadlines, calendars, and reporting structures to ensure compliance and timely submissions
  • In consultation with the Vice President of Development, craft and execute a five-year plan focused on program growth
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with program staff to ensure alignment between funding opportunities and organizational goals
  • Engage with existing funders to maintain and enhance relationships, identifying opportunities for increased grant amounts and partnerships
  • Identify new potential funders, build strategies for engagement, and lead work to forge new relationships
  • Conduct thorough research to identify and qualify prospective new funders and funding opportunities that align with our mission and programs
  • Stay informed about trends in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector to proactively identify potential funding sources
  • Lead the development of high-quality grant proposals and reports that clearly articulate our mission, programs, and impact to funders
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary data and insights for compelling storytelling in proposals
  • Work with the Finance team to maintain clear systems for accurately tracking grant spending and provide compelling budget reports that tell the story of our work
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align the foundations and grants program with the organization’s strategic priorities
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of funding strategies, making adjustments as needed to achieve desired outcomes
  • Contribute to building a strong and collaborative team culture grounded in racial equity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working and soliciting funding from foundations who grant funding to 501(c)(4) entities is a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of core reproductive rights issues preferred
