Summary

Join Rewiring America as their Senior Director of Government Relations! This newly created role will have you leading the organization's federal government relations strategy, building and maintaining relationships with officials, and advising senior staff. You will collaborate with various teams to execute public engagement campaigns and contribute to fundraising. This position requires 10+ years of experience on Capitol Hill and a deep understanding of federal government processes. Requirements

  • Strong commitment to the mission, policies and goals of Rewiring America
  • 10+ years of direct experience on Capitol Hill
  • Track record of success with federal government relations, ideally representing and advocating for priorities on behalf of a nonprofit organization, direct services organization, corporation, and/or membership association
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of federal government and decision-making processes, including budget and appropriations processes; proficient understanding of all timelines and procedural rules related to legislative and rule-making processes
  • Firm understanding of and commitment to compliance with state and federal lobbying laws, ethics rules, and applicable regulations
  • Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to ethically form and maintain relationships with government officials and government entities
  • Skill at convening stakeholders as a coalition to advance joint legislative and policy priorities, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to prepare a variety of written communications such as reports, testimony, and factsheets
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and can seamlessly pivot between being an individual contributor and working in close collaboration with others

Responsibilities

  • Lead Rewiring America’s government relations strategy
  • Develop and implement Rewiring America’s federal government relations strategy
  • Establish and maintain constructive bipartisan relationships with elected officials, political appointees, industry players, and other influencers to advance Rewiring America’s organizational agenda
  • Represent Rewiring America within Power Forward Communities’ government relations strategy and work to safeguard Rewiring America’s interests as a federal grantee
  • Provide frequent updates and strategic guidance to the CEO and senior leaders, including with respect to pertinent federal regulation and legislation, Congressional oversight, and other external considerations and opportunities that could impact Rewiring America
  • Serve as a key thought partner to Rewiring America’s Senior Director of Federal Policy, Head of Communications, and other members of the Network team to develop and execute public engagement campaigns that advance Rewiring America’s priorities
  • Manage consultants supporting this work and potentially manage one or more members of the Network team
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of strategies and organizational goals
  • Actively contribute and lead in the Network team, ensuring the success of the team, external consultants, and campaigns
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and high performance
  • Support and empower team members to excel in their roles and achieve organizational objectives
  • Help shape and contribute to a fundraising strategy in close coordination with the Investment team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in positioning a federal grantee organization for success
  • Skill in legislative advocacy, negotiation, and persuasion
  • Experience in the climate movement with an understanding of the current landscape and players
  • Content knowledge in demand-side electrification and/or renewable energy
