Summary

Join Thumbtack as a Senior Employment Counsel and provide day-to-day legal advice and counsel on labor and employment matters, working closely with internal stakeholders. You will formulate and review employment-related contracts and policies, prepare standard documentation, assist in investigations, represent the company in mediations, and manage litigation. This role requires at least 5-7 years of relevant legal experience with a strong background in Philippine labor and employment law and employee data privacy compliance. A Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and Philippine bar license are required. The position offers a virtual-first working model, company holidays, and various other benefits.

Requirements

  • At least 5-7 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong background in Philippine labor and employment law and employee data privacy compliance
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree holder
  • Licensed to practice law in the Philippines with good standing at the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, with up-to-date Mandatory Continuing Legal Education credits
  • Proven experience in drafting and reviewing employment-related contracts and policies
  • Proficiency in Philippine labor laws and regulations, including the Labor Code of the Philippines, Data Privacy Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to provide sound legal advice to stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to risk management and compliance
  • Background in handling administrative investigations (including Committee on Decorum and Investigation or β€œCODI”) and managing litigation, including coordination with outside counsel
  • Ideally, someone who can start immediately

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day advisory support on labor and employment (including employee data privacy) advice and counsel, working closely with internal stakeholders to develop frameworks that ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Formulate and review employment-related contracts and policies to align with legal requirements and company standards
  • Prepare standard documentation and filings for various stages of the employment life cycle
  • Assist in conducting administrative investigations and review notices issued in connection with such investigations
  • Represent the company at initial mediation conferences before the Department of Labor and Employment
  • Manage litigation matters, coordinating with outside counsel for court appearances and required submissions
  • Support our global People team with labor and employment advice for the Philippines, and assist the North America Legal team as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a US-based tech-driven environment, with exposure to complex employment and data privacy issues
  • Notarial commission in Makati City
  • Familiarity with US employment laws and regulations
  • Proficiency in using legal tech tools such as those related to contract management and legal research
