Summary

Join Kraken's Banking team as a Senior Manager and lead the implementation of partnerships with global banks and financial institutions. You will build and maintain strong relationships with banking partners, shaping Krakenโ€™s banking strategy and identifying high-impact opportunities. This role requires negotiating commercial terms, managing operational processes, and ensuring smooth client transactions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, monitor risks, and contribute to process improvements. The ideal candidate is a crypto-enthusiast with extensive experience in banking partnerships and a proven track record of closing high-value deals. This is a fully remote position.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in partnerships, relationship management and account management in banking, transaction banking or financial services focused on cryptocurrencies, payments, FX
  • Passion for and knowledge of cryptocurrency markets and the unique challenges associated with banking services in the cryptocurrency environment
  • Familiar with how corporate banks and financial institutions work and their decision makers. You're excellent at managing these relationships and constantly creating opportunities to improve them
  • Intellectually curious with a strong understanding of the crypto industry with an emphasis on banking, payments, FX, investments, geographic expansion
  • Strong network within the banking and payments industry
  • Strong ability to drive consensus and coordinate process with a diverse group of cross-functional stakeholders in legal, product, engineering, and beyond
  • Proven track record of closing multiple high value partnership deals from origination through integration and ongoing management for successful growth
  • Exceptional commercial acumen, outstanding negotiator and product instinct. Able to independently negotiate most ideal terms with clear product vision and understanding in mind and can figure out the ideal operational and commercial process with every new partner
  • Strong ability to drive consensus and coordinate process with a diverse group of cross-functional stakeholders in finance, treasury, legal, product, engineering, operations, marketing, business development, M&A and beyond
  • Experience in building financial models, revenue projections, and business plans

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all banks and financial services partners
  • Build and manage relationships with key bank partners, including financial institutions, banks, large corporations, and platforms that handle significant money movement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all banking partners, fostering collaboration and managing any issues that may arise
  • Contribute to shaping Krakenโ€™s banking strategy and identify high-impact opportunities
  • Articulate key value drivers and considerations for potential partnership opportunities in concise deal memos
  • Build consensus across Leadership and the wider organisation for the key banking partners and partnerships
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive execution and continuous progress of key initiatives and geo-expansion
  • Lead negotiations with bank and FI partners around quality of services provided, fees, costs, interest bearing accounts
  • Establish commercial relationships with all partners within timeframes required to support all product and new geos market launches
  • Own, lead and negotiate all commercial contractual terms, agreements, and addendums with banking partners to ensure favorable terms for Kraken
  • Regularly review existing agreements to identify opportunities for improvement or renegotiation
  • Articulate key value drivers and considerations for potential partnership opportunities in concise deal memos; build consensus across Leadership and the wider organization
  • Manage partnerships with an operational cadence--metrics and qualitative feedback--to ensure an effective working relationship that allows for continued operations and expansion of services
  • Oversee, enable and provide required banking services to ensure smooth client transactions, optimize treasury, liquidity management ensuring timely and accurate processing of all client transactions at all times
  • Work closely with all internal teams to streamline transaction workflows and resolve any issues related to client deposits and withdrawals across all products and services
  • Contribute to enhancing the Banking function by identifying opportunities to improve processes, drive efficiency and automation
  • Build an extensive network and maintain meaningful relationships to stay on top of key trends and industry developments
  • Proficiently communicate the value of working with Kraken to potential partners
  • Monitor and assess potential risks associated with existing banking partners, their impact to client transactions and proactively propose mitigating measures
  • Collaborate with the risk, security and audit teams to manage relevant assessments and strategies related to banking and payment processes
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

University degree in Finance, Business or a related field
