Summary

The job is for a senior technical writer role in the Commerce team at Block (formerly Square). The main responsibility is to manage and maintain the end-to-end developer documentation lifecycle for external partners. The required qualifications include 8 years of experience in API-based product documentation, excellent skills in documentation design, experience with static site generators and docs as code, mastery of Markdown, and ability to thrive in a self-learning environment.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience writing, editing, and planning API-based product documentation
  • Excellent skills in documentation design and effective information architecture
  • Experience producing documentation for modern software products that involve API integrations
  • Experience publishing content with static site generators and managing docs as code
  • Mastery of Markdown
  • Ability to thrive in an environment where self-learning and self-service is encouraged and instilled as a part of our culture

Responsibilities

  • Project managing developer documentation initiatives from concept to launch
  • Writing clear, comprehensive guides for new features/products
  • Drive content strategy by becoming familiar with our products and onboarding experiences through Sales Engineering & Product
  • Establish team processes around documenting new products and features

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comfortable learning new mediums for creating content, such as flowchart generators and AI-based tools
  • Conceptual familiarity with HTML, CSS, git, APIs, and/or Javascript libraries
  • Familiarity with fintech or payments
  • Distributed work; especially in collaboration with others across countries and time zones
