  • People & Operations Experience and Skills. You have extensive knowledge about and experience with the HR/people and operations/employee relations functions at organizations. You have developed effective systems and practices that support all stages of an employee’s lifecycle, from candidate recruitment to employee offboarding. You have a track record of building and maintaining a positive, equitable organizational culture in a dynamic environment; coaching and mentoring direct reports, peers, and senior leaders on effective talent management practices and equity skills and practice; and developing and implementing effective learning and development programs and interventions
  • Operationalizing Equity . You have experience developing equity transformation strategies and operationalizing equity across whole systems. You are familiar with the art and science of organizational development and have experience partnering with leaders and staff to manage complex change. You can demonstrate a track record of successfully intervening in problematic identity-based dynamics and deepening the equity skills and practices of individuals and teams
  • Strategic Thinking & Judgment. You have experience working effectively in fast–paced, highly dynamic environments. You use strong strategic and analytical thinking skills to identify and address root causes and improve organizational systems and processes with full transparency. You have a track record of being on the right side of tough judgment calls by carefully assessing complex situations, weighing all options and making humane, just and impact-driven decisions
  • Project Management & Organizational Skills. You are a systems thinker and have a love for effective and efficient processes. You have the skills required to naturally and effectively translate concepts into actionable plans and ensure clear communication of goals, responsibilities, and deadlines. You can successfully operate at the conceptual and detail levels and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get into the weeds. You have a track record of anticipating roadblocks and using thoughtful action to keep projects on target and move them toward completion
  • Communication & Relationship Building . You have a demonstrated track record of building relationships that support individual and collective ability to grow, thrive, and work effectively together. You have a history of developing high-trust relationships across position and identity and are a “go to” person for staff at all levels. You have experience designing and facilitating inclusive and impactful staff engagements, modeling openness, direct communication, and active listening skills. You have a track record of employing emotional maturity and skill to navigate complex and difficult dynamics and relationships

Responsibilities

  • Identify and build operations and people systems that meet organizational and personnel needs
  • Serve as a primary lead on employee relations issues, balancing superior emotional intelligence and organizational risk mitigation
  • Oversee the implementation of the organizational collective bargaining agreement and support union relations
  • Co-develop and implement an equity-centered approach to all stages of the talent lifecycle including recruitment, hiring, onboarding and performance management
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all state and federal workplace regulations and laws
  • Collaboratively design and build the human resources function within the department addressing capacity gaps and ensuring resources and expertise are appropriately deployed
  • Directly recruit, hire and manage human resources staff and co-develop and implement department cohesion, alignment and communication strategies
  • Provide expert coaching and support to other team leaders around team and individual management and conflict navigation
  • In partnership with the employee experience team, develop and implement plans to operationalize equity throughout the organization including embedding equity into all parts of the employee experience life cycle
  • Co-develop mechanisms to track and report on the efficacy of equity transformation strategies and make adjustments as needed
  • Co-develop and implement strategies to ensure an equitable, inclusive and high-performing organizational culture and community
  • Design and implement staff cohesion/engagement strategies that includes the creation of a robust internal communication strategy that ensures an inclusive dissemination of information and managing the cascade of internal information
  • Build authentic and enduring relationships with staff throughout the organization and act as a “go to” person for staff concerns, needs and input
  • Support the CAO in “holding the whole” of the Department and the organization, acting as a valued thought partner and collaborator
  • Stand in for the CAO at meetings and in interactions as needed
  • Lead special projects spanning the administration team, as assigned. This work may include partnering with leaders across finance and legal as needed
  • Attend to unanticipated projects and needs and manage crises that emerge

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible work experience including Human Resources and/or Operations
  • Prior experience partnering with, and supporting, executives
  • Experience working with unionized workforces
