System Administrator

Summary

Join our team as a System Administrator and be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, and networks across the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area. Ensure data integrity and security, collaborate with other departments on technological solutions, and provide technical support to end-users. This role requires managing network infrastructure, troubleshooting issues, implementing security measures, and conducting regular audits. The position involves 1-2 days of travel within the DMV area, with the remainder of the work being remote. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and proven system administration experience are required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
• Proven experience as a system administrator or similar role
• Proficiency in administering Windows, Linux, or Unix-based systems
• Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively

Responsibilities

• Install and configure computer hardware, operating systems, and software applications at various locations within the DMV area
• Set up and maintain user accounts, permissions, and passwords
• Configure and maintain network services such as DNS, DHCP, and VPN across multiple sites
• Perform regular system maintenance tasks, such as software updates, patches, and firmware upgrades, at different locations
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues proactively, addressing concerns at various sites
• Ensure system and data integrity through routine backups and disaster recovery planning across the region
• Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems, networks, and data from unauthorized access or breaches across the DMV area
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments across multiple sites
• Respond to security incidents and develop incident response procedures for the region
• Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points across different locations
• Monitor network traffic and optimize network performance across the DMV area
• Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and ensure network reliability region-wide
• Provide technical support and assistance to end-users at various sites, resolving hardware, software, and network issues
• Create and maintain technical documentation and user manuals accessible to users across the region
• Conduct user training sessions on IT systems and best practices as needed at different locations
• Collaborate with other IT staff and departments to identify technology needs and solutions across the DMV
• Plan and execute IT projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and implementations, across multiple sites
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers for procurement and support of IT equipment and services within the region

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
