Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree, or be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, in the program’s subject matter area
  • Have 1 year of experience substituting or tutoring at an academic institution
  • Have project support or coordination experience
  • Be a quick learner with technology
  • Be proficient and fluid with technology such as G-Suite, Zoom or similar web conferencing platform, and Asana or similar task management system
  • Possess professional, courteous, and clear verbal communication skills
  • Possess fast and accurate (grammar/spelling) written communication skills
  • Have great listening skills
  • Possess excellent organizational skills; be detail-oriented and thorough
  • Have a natural propensity for time management and task follow-through
  • Have project management experience, or a natural ability for managing projects
  • Have a knack for systemization
  • Be a team player who is self-motivated, takes initiative and is resourceful when solving problems, and goes the extra mile
  • Have a growth mindset; be open to new ideas and interested in learning and growing, personally and professionally. Be open to giving and receiving feedback
  • Be able to take and pass a Criminal Background Check
  • Have the ability to stand or sit at the computer for periods of time, and look at a screen during work hours

Responsibilities

  • Attend recurring or ad hoc meetings as requested by the Program Lead
  • Create agendas, take notes, and complete follow-up action items as needed
  • Hold a regular 1:1 with the Program Lead based on needs
  • Substitute for Mentors during planned and unplanned absences from the virtual classroom
  • Review readings and topics for the class session(s) and be prepared
  • Follow the lesson plan unless permission to alter the plan is given by the administration
  • Engage students in meaningful discussion using prepared lesson materials
  • Be familiar with the Rules of Engagement, The Honor Code, and the basics of managing a classroom in either the physical environment or the online environment
  • After the class has ended, provide a brief but detailed report to the class mentor on what material was covered, what insights/issues were raised, and share any concerns or suggestions for moving forward
  • Grade student work and provide timely (within 4 days), detailed, and quality feedback on assignments within Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Monitor the weighting of assignments, checking for accuracy
  • Meet with your Mentor weekly (preferred) or report via email on student progress and issues so that the mentor is completely up to date on all student progress

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a general understanding of education and/or homeschooling fields
  • Have 2 years of working experience as a Teacher’s Assistant, including grading student work
  • Have a prior history of working with middle- and high school-aged students
  • Have 1 year of experience teaching in the subject area at an academic institution

Benefits

  • Grading Pay: $15/hour
  • Substitute Pay: $20/hour
