Summary

Join Smartsheet as their VP Procurement and lead the development and execution of sourcing and procurement strategies. This strategic leadership role reports to the SVP, Financial Planning & Analysis, and focuses on responsible spend management and operational excellence. You will work cross-functionally, influence decision-making, set category strategies, perform market analysis, build procurement processes, lead and develop a team, and partner with other departments. The role requires extensive experience in procurement and team leadership within a corporate environment, ideally in tech. Smartsheet offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or other related field ideal, master’s degree or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in a corporate environment, ideally within tech / software (SaaS) with a proven track record in building out sourcing and procurement programs
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience leading a team
  • Understanding of procurement laws, regulations, and ethical practices to ensure compliance
  • Proven ability to direct, inspire, and empower a team to drive impact
  • Strong data-driven mindset with excellent analytical and financial acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization and externally
  • Experience overseeing up to $250M of overall company spend in a global organization

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally to build strategic relationships with leaders across Smartsheet and engage with key stakeholders at all levels to align procurement strategy with business priorities, ensuring procurement is a valued strategic partner
  • Influence the decision-making process impacting spend management, efficiency, and supplier partnerships by leveraging data-driven insights, market intelligence, and advanced methods of analysis, planning, and forecasting
  • Set the direction and define expectations for long-term category strategies to drive value creation and cost savings
  • Perform industry benchmarking with respect to pricing, performance, service levels and other measurable standards. Study market conditions supply/demand trends, industry technology, supplier financial data, and competitive environment of strategic plans
  • Forecast pricing and develop strategies for long term planning and negotiations. Develop and manage cost reduction programs to reduce operating total costs
  • Build and implement a sourcing and procurement process by establishing procurement policies, guidelines, and best practices
  • Define and track operational reporting, analytics, and performance metrics that improve procurement efficiency, enhance supplier management, and demonstrate Procurement's impact on business objectives
  • Provide vision, strategy, and direction to the procurement team, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, operational needs, and Smartsheet's financial strategy
  • Recruit, train, and develop employees to maintain a highly motivated, professional staff of procurement experts
  • Partner with other departments and stakeholders, including FP&A, to ensure timely execution of procurement requirements, budget alignment, achievement of cost reduction targets, and optimal total cost of ownership
  • Collaborate with other teams, including Risk, Privacy, Legal, and Security, to build/implement tools to objectively review suppliers (i) before purchase and (ii) for performance and continued due diligence and supplier compliance after purchase, with an eye to risk management, ESG commitments, etc
  • Champion continuous improvement in all aspects of procurement delivery (supplier performance, business adoption, payment terms, etc.)
  • Evaluate and optimize tools, processes, and systems - including automation and new technologies - that support long-term efficiency, compliance, and enable us to scale both effectively and sustainably

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred certifications such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)
  • Prior experience partnering with private equity is ideal, with experience in building out a set of programs, metrics, KPIs and reports
  • Coupa Software experience is strongly desired
